Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville, Georgia, has made a significant contribution to the state and local economy, according to new data from the Georgia Hospital Association (GHA). The report, based on 2023 figures and independent modeling, shows that Archbold Memorial contributed $844 million to Thomas County’s economy. Collectively, Archbold’s four hospitals added nearly $1.2 billion to Georgia’s statewide economy.

The hospital system is also a major employer in the region. GHA data indicates that Archbold supports 5,292 jobs across Georgia. In Thomas County alone, Archbold Memorial is responsible for 3,641 jobs, which includes 1,486 full- and part-time positions at the hospital itself. These roles generate almost $380 million in household earnings throughout the state.

“While our primary mission will always be to provide access to high-quality, compassionate, and cutting-edge care, we are proud of Archbold’s significant positive impact on the economy of South Georgia,” said Darcy Craven, President and CEO of Archbold.

Shelley Zorn of the Thomasville-Thomas County Payroll Development Authority emphasized the importance of Archbold as an employer: “Archbold is our number one employer, and each dollar the hospital’s employees spend here in Thomasville turns over seven times in our community,” she said. “When prospective industries, small businesses and individuals are considering moving to Thomasville, one of their first questions is often about our healthcare system. I am always happy to share that Archbold is a name they can trust.”

Founded in 1925, Archbold has played a central role in providing healthcare services for residents at all stages of life—from emergency care to specialized treatments such as cancer care.

“Archbold is committed to providing high-quality, patient-focused healthcare,” Craven said. “We are proud to have been a leader in our region for more than a century.”

The economic impact figures were developed through a partnership between GHA and IMPLAN using data from sources including the Georgia Department of Community Health Annual Hospital Questionnaire and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Cost Report.
