Gerald Kadis, MD, a neurosurgeon at Archbold, has retired after nearly 46 years of service. Dr. Kadis was the third-longest serving member of the Archbold Medical Staff at the time of his retirement last month.
Dr. Kadis was born in Brookline, Massachusetts, and graduated from the University of Rochester School of Medicine in 1971. He completed his residency in neurosurgery at Columbia-Presbyterian Hospital in New York before moving to Thomasville in 1979 to begin his career at John D. Archbold Memorial Hospital.
During his tenure, Dr. Kadis played a key role in advocating for a trauma center at Archbold and supported efforts for technological advancements within the hospital. He worked alongside Dr. Craig Allen Fredericks for more than thirty years, advancing neurosurgery services throughout South Georgia.
Dr. Kadis was involved in introducing new treatments such as implantable spinal pain pumps and Nevro HF10 spinal cord stimulation therapy at Archbold. He is also credited with bringing Gamma Knife technology to the hospital, which has changed treatment options for brain and upper spine disorders and benefited many local families.
At retirement, Archbold Neurology/Neurosurgery had around 800 active patients, but hospital staff noted that Dr. Kadis’s influence reached far beyond this number due to his long-standing commitment and care.
“The entire Archbold team, medical staff and administration congratulate Dr. Kadis on his uniquely impactful career and thank him for his 46 years of service to our community,” said representatives from Archbold.
