Atlanta United announced on May 1 that the team is preparing to host CF Montréal following two consecutive away victories. The club will play its next match at home on Saturday, May 2, as it aims to continue its winning streak in the Eastern Conference.
The recent successes have boosted team morale and provided opportunities for younger players to step up while several veterans recover from injuries. Head coach Tata Martino said the team’s focus is on maintaining their current momentum: “prolong this good moment that we’re having.”
Several key players may return soon, with Miguel Almirón listed as questionable after a knee issue, Cayman Togashi recovering from an ankle injury, and Sergio Santos working through a calf problem. However, Steven Alzate remains out due to an adductor injury. Martino noted the importance of young talent filling in during these absences: “When a team is missing good players and it’s able to find answers, as we have in these games without those players, it’s a good thing.” He added about squad involvement: “The best way to have the whole group involved is to be able to get everyone some kind of participation.”
Will Reilly described his experience wearing the captain’s armband: “I was super surprised, I was not expecting it… Having come up through the Academy especially and seeing all these massive guys in the club that have worn the armband, that was a cool experience.” Reilly emphasized his connection with Atlanta United: “This is our team. We grew up here. This is part of our identity… It’s not just a bunch of kids in this team anymore, we want to be full members of this team.” Martino praised his young squad’s maturity: “I like when there’s a group of young players who feel that. They take the responsibility, they’re brave… they want to do well for the club to help the club.”
