The Augusta, Georgia Compliance Department announced on May 7 that it will hold the second of three information workshops aimed at small business owners interested in learning about business certifications and how these can support growth and create new opportunities.
The event is intended to help local entrepreneurs understand the types of certifications available through Augusta and how these credentials may benefit their businesses. Organizers say the session will offer practical, easy-to-understand information designed to help attendees better position their businesses for future opportunities.
The workshop is scheduled for Thursday, May 14, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., at Accelerate Augusta, located at 600 Broad Street in Augusta. Dr. Yolanda Jackson, Interim Compliance Director for Augusta, will facilitate the session. According to the announcement, Dr. Jackson brings more than 25 years of experience in local, state, and federal compliance as well as extensive knowledge of business certifications and work with businesses of various sizes.
Augusta operates under a consolidated government led by a mayor and ten commissioners; it ranks as Georgia’s second oldest and second largest city. The city includes nine neighborhoods listed on the National Register of Historic Places along with historic monuments such as President Woodrow Wilson’s boyhood home and the Ezekiel Harris House built in 1797. It developed the Augusta Canal in 1847 which established it as one of the world’s major inland cotton markets; today it remains part of the Central Savannah River Area spanning counties across Georgia and South Carolina, according to the official website.
