Backing Gov. Brian Kemp (R-GA) is not out of the question for former-President Donald Trump as Kemp faces re-election against Democrat Stacey Abrams in November.
In a recent report by FOX 5 Atlanta, Trump—who has long railed against Kemp for certifying President Joe Biden’s victory in Georgia following the 2020 presidential election that he continues to insist was ravaged by alleged voter fraud—said nothing was out of the question.
“Well, we’ll be looking at everything,” Trump told Fox News Digital.
Kemp won the GOP primary with nearly 74% of the vote, setting up a rematch with Democrat Stacey Abrams, whom he defeated in 2018.
Even after stepping down as president, Trump’s influence over the Republican Party remains strong. Recently, he won a CPAC straw poll showing he had 69% support among attendees in a hypothetical GOP primary in 2024, where Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis finished a distant second with 24% of the vote.
This comes as FOX 5 reports a number of Trump’s endorsed candidates have prevailed in competitive GOP gubernatorial primaries including Kari Lake in Arizona, Tudor Dixon in Michigan and Dan Cox in Maryland.
