The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has announced a bridge replacement project in Clarke County. The project will involve closing County Road 479/Belmont Road over Shoal Creek starting Tuesday, July 22, 2025. The bridge replacement is expected to take approximately 12 months to complete, depending on weather conditions.
A signed detour will be in place directing traffic along Bob Godfrey Road. Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead and allow for extra travel time when navigating through the area.
“This project is part of GDOT’s ongoing efforts to maintain and improve Georgia’s bridge infrastructure for the safety and mobility of the traveling public,” stated GDOT officials.
The department appreciates the patience of motorists and local residents during this time as they work to replace the aging structure with a safer crossing over Shoal Creek.
