Calhoun High School names Teacher and Staff Member of the Year for 2026-2027

Calhoun High School announced on May 7 that Skylar Benham has been named the 2026-2027 Teacher of the Year, and Lisa Harris has been selected as the Staff Member of the Year.

The recognition highlights outstanding contributions by faculty and staff to student experiences at Calhoun High School. The awards acknowledge dedication, leadership, and positive impact within the school community.

Benham is in his eleventh year as an educator and his second year at Calhoun High School. He teaches ninth grade Foundations of Success as well as twelfth grade Economics and Government. In addition to teaching, he serves as Senior Advisor, planning senior experiences and traditions. Benham holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Middle Grades Education and a Master’s Degree in Instructional Technology from Kennesaw State University. He also earned a Specialist Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Piedmont University with an endorsement in gifted education.

Colleagues describe Benham as “a dedicated educator, supportive teammate, and positive leader who works tirelessly to create meaningful experiences for students both inside and outside the classroom.” They say he is known for building strong relationships with students, creating engaging lessons, and helping students feel valued throughout their high school journey. The announcement states: “His passion for students, strong work ethic, and commitment to excellence make a lasting impact across the CHS community.”

Lisa Harris was recognized as Staff Member of the Year for her role as Office Manager at Calhoun High School. She has supported students at all levels within Calhoun City Schools after previous experience working for a Fortune 500 company where she was featured in Forbes Magazine. Colleagues describe Harris as “the heartbeat of CHS” who creates “a welcoming and positive atmosphere while keeping the front office running smoothly.” The statement adds: “Her professionalism, organization, compassion, and willingness to support others make a lasting impact on students, families, staff, and the entire CHS community.”

Calhoun City School District provides public education from early childhood through high school in Calhoun, Georgia. It operates five schools that serve about 4,200 students with comprehensive academic programs including arts and athletics; it maintains a 100 percent graduation rate according to the official website.

According to the official website, Dr. Taylor is among notable personnel leading Calhoun City School District.
