Catharine Monroe has been appointed as the new district health director for Clayton County, effective May 5. Monroe had served as Interim Health Director in Clayton County since November 2024 and previously held several leadership roles within public health.
This appointment is significant because the district health director oversees public health services that affect community well-being throughout Clayton County. The Georgia Department of Public Health advances efforts to protect lives and support communities across the state, according to the official website.
Monroe’s background includes serving as Deputy Chief Nurse overseeing Education and Professional Development for the Department of Public Health, and eight years as Director of the Center for Clinical Services at Cobb and Douglas Public Health. Before her work in public health, she practiced as a registered nurse and managed nursing programs at hospitals in Memphis, Tennessee.
