Cathy Williams, a member of the Georgia State Transportation Board (STB), has been named among the “100 Most Influential Women in Georgia Engineering” by Engineering Georgia magazine. This is her first appearance on the annual list, which recognizes women leaders for their impact within the engineering industry in Georgia.

Williams was elected to the State Transportation Board in 2023 and represents Georgia’s Congressional District 2, the largest by land area in the state. Her district covers Baker, parts of Bibb, Calhoun, Chattahoochee, Clay, Crawford, Decatur, Dooly, Dougherty, Early, Grady, parts of Houston, Lee, Macon, Marion, Miller, Mitchell, parts of Muscogee, Peach, Quitman, Randolph, Schley, Seminole, Stewart, Sumter, Talbot, Taylor, Terrell, Thomas and Webster Counties. She has previously served as president & CEO of NeighborWorks Columbus and held roles with the Muscogee County School District Board and National Association of Home Builders.

Engineering Georgia magazine has recognized members of both the STB and Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) for eight consecutive years through its annual listing. The 2025 list includes five STB members and five Georgia DOT team members.

“The State Transportation Board is comprised of 14 congressional districts, each represented by a board member elected by a majority of a General Assembly caucus from their congressional district. Board members serve staggered five-year terms and guide the planning, development, and management of the department including critical transportation projects in the state of Georgia.”

“Georgia DOT aims to deliver a transportation system focused on innovation, safety, sustainability and mobility. The department takes pride in its diverse and well-trained workforce and is proud to recognize the achievements of these women.”

The full list appears in Engineering Georgia’s May/June issue.

Georgia DOT is responsible for planning and maintaining state and federal highways across Georgia. The agency also works on bridges, waterways projects as well as public transit systems throughout the state. Its workforce numbers nearly 4,000 employees who focus on delivering innovative and safe transportation solutions.
