Charlton County announced on May 4 that it is accepting qualifications and proposals for a Guaranteed Energy Savings Contract. Submissions will be received at 68 Kingsland, Suite B, Folkston, Georgia, on June 3 at 11:00 a.m. local time, when they will be publicly opened and read.

The county said the complete description of the job and bid requirements can be reviewed on the Bid Postings page. This initiative is intended to address energy efficiency needs within county facilities through performance-based contracting.

The announcement comes as Charlton County schools have experienced changes in enrollment and demographics. Enrollment dropped by 3.3% in the 2022-23 school year compared to the previous year, according to the Georgia Department of Education’s data. During that same period, white students made up the largest group in Charlton County schools at 61% of total enrollment according to state data.

Black students were identified as the second most represented group with 28% of students enrolled according to state data. Multiracial students accounted for about 7%, while Hispanic students made up approximately 3% of the student body during this period according to state data. Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander students represented about 1%, making them the least represented ethnic group in Charlton County schools as reported by state education officials.

County officials are moving forward with efforts like this Guaranteed Energy Savings Contract as part of ongoing initiatives that may support infrastructure improvements across public facilities.
