The Clayton County Police Department highlighted efforts to strengthen community engagement and public safety during the latest episode of the Clayton Connected Podcast, released on May 8. The episode featured Communications Administrator Valerie L. Fuller, Sector 3 Commander Ricky Porter, and Officer Shontrese Dismuke discussing strategies for parents and children to stay involved while building positive relationships with law enforcement.
The podcast aims to inform residents about ongoing programs and encourage collaboration between the police department and the community. Listeners were invited to subscribe to the Clayton Connected Podcast through various platforms, including Apple, Spotify, Stitcher, Pandora, or directly at https://claytonconnectedpodcast.claytoncountyga.gov.
During their conversation, Fuller said that the podcast “shines a light on the people, programs, and positive public safety progress.” Porter and Dismuke joined her in sharing practical advice for families seeking ways to remain engaged with local initiatives.
Recent data shows that enrollment at Clayton County schools dropped by 2.5% in the 2022-23 school year compared to the previous year. The total student population was reported as 61,644 students for that period. Black students made up 68% of enrollment—the largest group—while Hispanic students represented 24%. Multiracial students accounted for 3%, and white students were noted as comprising just 2% of county enrollment during this time frame—all according to the Georgia Department of Education.
As local officials continue these outreach efforts through podcasts and other communication channels, they hope such programs will foster trust between residents and law enforcement while addressing issues relevant to families across Clayton County.
