Clayton County officials announced on May 22 that a section of Battle Creek Road will be closed for 120 days from Monday, June 1 to Tuesday, September 29, 2026. The closure will affect the area beginning at Valley Hill Road from Autumn Drive to the intersection of Battle Creek Road and Tara Boulevard.

The closure is expected to cause delays for motorists traveling through the area. Traffic control measures and signage will be in place to guide drivers safely around the work zone. Access for residents and businesses within the affected area will be maintained, including services such as mail delivery, emergency response, and trash collection.

Officials say motorists should exercise caution, plan alternate routes ahead of time, follow posted detours, and avoid the area if possible. Detour routes have been established: traffic will be directed down Valley Hill Road to Tara Boulevard where travelers can access Battle Creek Road by following State Route 138 and Jonesboro Road. Motorists on Battle Creek Road can reach Valley Hill Road by turning left onto Tara Boulevard then right onto Valley Hill Road.
