The Clayton County Board of Commissioners announced on May 26 that it will hold a Budget Hearing on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. The meeting is open to all interested citizens and will take place in the Commissioners’ Board Room at 112 Smith Street, Jonesboro, Georgia. The proposed fiscal year 2027 budget will be presented during this session.
The county stated that the proposed budget will be available for public review starting June 2, 2026. Residents can access the document online at www.claytoncountyga.gov or in person at several library locations: Headquarters Library (856 Battle Creek Road, Jonesboro), Lovejoy Library (1721 McDonough Road, Hampton), Morrow Library (6225 Maddox Rd., Morrow), and Riverdale Library (420 Valley Hill Road SW, Jonesboro) during regular hours. All interested citizens are invited to provide written and oral comments regarding the proposed budget. The county encourages community participation.
Enrollment at Clayton County schools dropped by 2.5% in the 2022-23 school year compared to the previous year; total enrollment was reported as 61,644 students during that period, according to the Georgia Department of Education. Demographic data from the same source shows Black students comprised the largest group at Clayton County schools with 68% of enrollment in the 2022-23 school year; Hispanic students made up about 24%, multiracial students accounted for approximately 3%, and White students represented around two percent.
The public hearing provides an opportunity for residents to learn more about county priorities and share feedback before final decisions are made regarding fiscal allocations.
