Clayton County Board to conduct audit of May 19 general and nonpartisan election

The Clayton County Board of Elections and Registration announced on May 28 that it will perform a risk-limiting audit of the May 19, 2026, General and Nonpartisan Election. The audit is scheduled for Friday, May 29, at South Clayton Recreation Center, located at 1837 McDonough Rd, Hampton, Georgia. The process will begin at 9 a.m.

According to the announcement, the purpose of the risk-limiting audit is to ensure accuracy in the reported results from the recent election. Risk-limiting audits are designed to provide statistical evidence that an election outcome is correct or to correct it if it is wrong.

In related context about local demographics, enrollment at Clayton County schools dropped by 2.5% in the 2022-23 school year compared to the previous year. The district enrolled a total of 61,644 students during that period. Black students made up the largest ethnic group with 68% of enrollment; Hispanic students accounted for 24%, multiracial students represented 3%, and white students were the least represented group at just 2% of total enrollment, according to the Georgia Department of Education.
