Catharine Monroe, MSN, RN, has been named the new Health Director for the Clayton County Health District, according to a May 8 announcement. Monroe had served as interim director since November 2024.
The appointment is significant for public health leadership in Clayton County. As the district’s leader, Monroe will oversee local health initiatives and programs that affect residents’ well-being.
Before joining Clayton County, Monroe was Deputy Chief Nurse overseeing Education and Professional Development at the Georgia Department of Public Health. She also served as Director of the Center for Clinical Services at Cobb and Douglas Public Health. Monroe earned both her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and her Master of Science in Nursing with a concentration in executive leadership from the University of Memphis.
Clayton County schools enrolled a total of 61,644 students in the 2022-23 school year. Enrollment dropped by 2.5% compared to the previous year; Black students made up 68% of enrollment, Hispanic students represented 24%, multiracial students accounted for 3%, and white students were about 2% of total enrollment, according to the Georgia Department of Education.
