Clayton County Parks and Recreation announced on May 21 that it will hold the Lake Spivey Baseball Camp throughout July at the Lake Spivey Recreation Center in Jonesboro.

The camp offers pitching, hitting, and fielding sessions for children ages 6 to 13. Organizers say the goal is to provide affordable opportunities for local youth to learn baseball skills. Pitching camp will be held every Monday in July for children ages 8-12. Hitting camp will take place every Wednesday in July, except July 1, for children ages 6-12. Fielding camp is scheduled every Friday in July for children ages 6-13. All sessions run from noon to 2:00 p.m., with a fee of $10 per day and limited spots available.

Registration opens June 15, with both online and in-person options at www.claytonparks.com. “Let’s play ball! Sign your child(ren) up for Clayton County Parks and Recreation’s Lake Spivey Baseball Camp!” organizers said.

The announcement comes as enrollment at Clayton County schools dropped by 2.5% during the 2022-23 school year compared to the previous year, according to the Georgia Department of Education. During that period, Clayton County schools enrolled a total of about 61,644 students; Black students made up the largest group at approximately 68%, followed by Hispanic students at about 24%. Multiracial students accounted for around three percent while White students represented two percent of county enrollment, according to the Georgia Department of Education.

Organizers encourage families interested in participating or learning more about youth sports programming to visit their website or register directly before spaces fill.
