Chairwoman Dr. Alieka Anderson-Henry announced on May 8 that Clayton County will host a celebration for Caribbean Heritage Month in partnership with Parks & Recreation and the Caribbean Association of Georgia. The event is scheduled for Saturday, June 27, from noon to 8 p.m. at the Clayton County International Park in Jonesboro.
The celebration aims to recognize and honor the contributions of Caribbean communities within Clayton County. Organizers say it will be an opportunity for residents to come together and enjoy cultural festivities under the banner of #ClaytonConnected.
Dr. Anderson-Henry invited community members by saying, “Join Chairwoman Dr. Alieka Anderson-Henry and Parks & Recreation in partnership with the Caribbean Association of Georgia to celebrate Caribbean Heritage Month.” She reiterated, “Join Chairwoman Dr. Alieka Anderson-Henry and Parks & Recreation in partnership with the Caribbean Association of Georgia to celebrate Caribbean Heritage Month on Sat., June 27, 2026, from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Clayton County International Park, 2300 Hwy. 138 SE, Jonesboro, GA, 30236.”
The event comes as Clayton County schools reflect a diverse student population: Black students make up about two-thirds of enrollment; Hispanic students account for nearly one-quarter; multiracial students are third most represented; while white students comprise only a small percentage according to the Georgia Department of Education.
Recent data show that enrollment at Clayton County schools dropped by approximately two and a half percent during the last school year compared to previous years, totaling just over sixty-one thousand six hundred students according to the Georgia Department of Education.
Community leaders expect that events like this can help foster greater connection among residents representing many backgrounds.
