Commissioner Tashé Allen and the Clayton County Veteran Advisory Board announced on May 15 that the third annual Women Veteran Appreciation Day will take place on Friday, June 12 at 10 a.m. The event will be held at the Flint River Community Center in Riverdale, Georgia.
The gathering aims to honor and celebrate the service, strength, and impact of women who have served in the military. Organizers say it is an opportunity for community members to come together, share stories, and show support for women veterans.
“You are invited to honor and celebrate the service, strength, and impact of women who have served our country,” Allen said in her announcement. “Come share stories, enjoy great company, and feel the love of a supportive community!”
The event comes as Clayton County schools report changes in student enrollment. In the 2022-23 school year, enrollment dropped by 2.5% compared to the previous year while total enrollment was reported at 61,644 students according to the Georgia Department of Education. Black students made up 68% of students enrolled during this period; Hispanic students accounted for 24%, multiracial students represented 3%, and white students were reported as making up just 2% of county’s student body according to the Georgia Department of Education.
Organizers encourage those interested in attending or supporting local veterans to access further information through registration forms provided by Clayton County.
