Cobb County’s director of assessment and personalized learning, Lori Horn, discussed summer learning options for students during an episode of The Inside Scoop podcast, according to an April 30 statement.
The discussion is important for families as it outlines how the district supports students academically throughout the summer. These programs aim to help children from kindergarten through high school stay on track with their education or recover credits needed for graduation.
Horn said that interventions are available across all grade levels. Elementary and middle school programs focus on preparing students for the next academic year, while high school credit recovery allows students to retake failed courses. “Registration processes vary by level and program. High school credit recovery registration runs through May 22 to accommodate late needs. Transportation, meals, and attendance policies are the same as during the regular school year,” Horn said.
Parents are encouraged to engage with their child’s school about available resources. The district emphasizes that education continues beyond the traditional calendar and encourages participation in these offerings. “It is an excellent opportunity to prepare for next year or make up needed classes. Education happens year-round, and Cobb offers many options for students to stay engaged during the summer,” Horn said.
Pebblebrook High School is one of several schools participating in these initiatives; it serves students in the Mableton area as part of Cobb County School District and hosts performing arts presentations through its center for excellence, according to the official website.
Dana Giles serves as principal at Pebblebrook High School, according to the official website. Facilities at Pebblebrook include multiple gyms with a new gymnasium added in 1997.
