Imari Bailey, a 24-year-old resident of Douglas, Georgia, was arrested by officials with the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office and members of the Criminal Investigation Division on June 1 following an investigation into illegal activity within the Coffee County Jail.
Bailey had been employed as a jailer for approximately six months. Investigators said Bailey smuggled contraband into the jail, violating her oath of office and committing multiple felony offenses.
She has been charged with Violation of Oath by a Public Officer under OCGA 42-4-13, Providing Contraband to an Inmate under OCGA 42-5-18, and Guard Lines and Jail Violations under OCGA 16-10-1. Authorities said more charges may be applied pending the conclusion of the investigation. Each occurrence is considered a felony offense.
Fred Cole, Sheriff at Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, said every employee is given both a path to success and a clear understanding of consequences during orientation. Cole tells new hires, “If you violate your oath of office, bring contraband into this jail, or engage in inappropriate relationships with inmates, we will find out and you will be charged and booked into the jail.”
The Sheriff’s Office stated it remains committed to operating with honor, integrity, compassion, and professionalism through all available safeguards and accountability measures. When standards are violated, officials said decisive action will be taken to protect the integrity of the justice system and maintain public trust.
