The Georgia Department of Transportation approved a request from Georgia Power for the closure so that vegetation can be cut from power lines in the area. Signs will be posted to alert drivers about the road closure.

A detour route has been established directing traffic north on Old Appling Harlem Highway to Swint Road and then south on Swint Road back to State Route 223/Wrightsboro Road.
