Georgia has been at the center of intense political debates concerning accountability, freedom, and child safety. These discussions have intensified as lawmakers consider new school safety requirements and parental rights measures. The debates are further fueled by efforts to limit classroom content and increase transparency. According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, these issues have been influenced by national controversies over civil liberties and recent local incidents.
A 2024 survey conducted by the University of Georgia revealed that 68% of Georgia parents identified school safety as their primary concern. Additionally, 55% expressed worries about threats to student civil liberties, indicating heightened anxiety over both physical safety and freedom of expression. The Georgia Department of Education recorded over 3,000 school safety incidents during the 2022–2023 period.
Education Week reported that Georgia has surpassed national averages in introducing legislation related to school transparency, parental notification, and book restrictions. Polls indicate that Georgia parents are more likely than the U.S. average to demand accountability and express concerns about child safety laws and school content oversight.
Taylor is a Georgia educator and former school administrator who previously ran as a Republican in the 2022 gubernatorial primary. Her current congressional campaign focuses on parental rights, child safety, and government accountability, according to Ballotpedia.
