Kandiss Taylor, a congressional candidate from Georgia, has emphasized the need for border protection to be complemented by efforts to enhance community safety through stronger law enforcement and support services. This statement was made on the social media platform X.

“SECURE OUR COMMUNITIES, NOT JUST OUR BORDERS,” said Taylor, Congress Candidate. “A secure border is essential, BUT so is securing our homes and streets. America First means protecting OUR people first. Ending catch-and-release in both immigration and justice.”

Debates over U.S. border security and domestic law enforcement have intensified, with policymakers divided over issues such as migrant crossings, federal-state cooperation, and resource allocation for crime prevention. These discussions are influenced by ongoing concerns about illegal immigration and calls for criminal justice reform, as reported by the Wall Street Journal.

According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s 2023 report, crime rates in Georgia have declined over the last decade. However, law enforcement resources remain stretched in rural communities where officer-to-population ratios are below the national average.

The Migration Policy Institute reports that “catch-and-release” immigration policies result in more individuals being released pending hearings. Similar practices in criminal justice have shown mixed effects on recidivism and pretrial detention.

Taylor is a former educator and Republican candidate for Georgia governor in 2022 and for U.S. Congress in 2024. She is known for her strong positions on border security and opposition to “catch-and-release,” according to Ballotpedia.
