Construction work at the I-285/I-20 West Interchange is set to progress as the Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) and its contractors prepare to begin controlled blasting next week. The blasting will occur within the interchange’s interior, specifically along the I-285 southbound to I-20 eastbound ramp.

Traffic pacing operations are scheduled between 10:30 a.m. and 12 p.m. on weekdays from Monday through Thursday until the end of summer 2025. These operations will take place on I-285 southbound starting at Bolton Road, with each session potentially lasting up to 20 minutes. Drivers should anticipate brief travel delays and are encouraged to use navigation apps for alternative routes.

Law enforcement will be present to manage traffic during these times, and residents may notice increased noise levels due to the blasting activities.

The project website offers updates on current activities, and inquiries can be directed via email at westinterchange@dot.ga.gov or by phone at 770-343-0770.

Motorists are advised that exact timing may change due to weather conditions, and intermittent traffic pacing along with lane and ramp closures might occur within the work zone. It is recommended that drivers expect delays, exercise caution, reduce speed in work zones, stay alert, and watch for workers.
