A section of State Route 36 in Butts County will be closed beginning March 27, 2026, to allow for a culvert replacement project. The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) announced that the closure will take place at Norris Creek, approximately 3.2 miles southwest of Jackson, and at Big Sandy Creek, about 3.8 miles southwest of Jackson.
The project involves removing the existing bottomless culvert and replacing it with a box culvert. According to GDOT, the road is expected to reopen in late summer 2026.
During construction, westbound traffic on SR 36 will be detoured using SR 16 to Interstate 75 southbound to exit 201. Eastbound traffic will use I-75 northbound to exit 205 (SR 16) into Jackson. Drivers are advised that dates may change due to weather or other factors and should expect delays.
Motorists are encouraged to exercise caution and reduce speed when traveling through work zones. For real-time updates on road work and traffic conditions, drivers can call 511, visit the GDOT website at https://511ga.org/, or download the Georgia 511 app.
