The DeKalb Chamber of Commerce announced on May 11 the launch of the DeKalb County Small Business Resource Guide, a new tool designed to help entrepreneurs and business owners start, operate, and grow businesses throughout DeKalb County.

The guide aims to make it easier for business owners to navigate requirements in one of Georgia’s most diverse counties. It offers practical information about business structures, licensing, zoning, taxes, compliance, financing options, and local support resources. Municipality-specific details are included for all 13 cities in DeKalb County as well as unincorporated areas.

“DeKalb County has a strong entrepreneurial ecosystem, but navigating the process of starting and growing a business can sometimes feel overwhelming,” said Frankie Atwater, President & CEO of the DeKalb Chamber. “This guide was created to bring together trusted resources, local expertise, and essential information into one accessible tool that empowers businesses to move forward with confidence.”

The resource is a result of collaboration between Decide DeKalb Development Authority, DeKalb County Government, local municipalities, and the University of Georgia Small Business Development Center. The organizations provide technical assistance such as business coaching and consulting opportunities through UGA SBDC as well as access to programs like the Decide DeKalb Small Business Revolving Loan Fund.

Key sections cover topics including understanding business structures; registration requirements; obtaining licenses; occupational tax certificates by jurisdiction; zoning guidance; tax compliance; financing resources; marketing strategies; and available technical assistance programs. The guide is intended both as an entry point for new businesses and an ongoing reference for those relocating or expanding within the county.

The chamber enhances credibility for member businesses by helping consumers choose chamber-affiliated companies. It also offers members access to leadership opportunities and affordable health coverage plans tailored for small businesses through partnerships with other organizations according to the official website.

According to its official website at the organization, the chamber serves businesses across all parts of DeKalb area.
