Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) contractors are set to implement lane closures on Interstate 285 near Tucker, DeKalb County, this weekend. The lane closures are part of a concrete rehabilitation project targeting the stretch of I-285 between Henderson Mill Road and State Road 8/Lawrenceville Highway (SR 8). This initiative aims to address the deteriorating state of the roadway.

Weather and on-site conditions permitting, two right lanes on I-285 southbound from Northlake Parkway to Lawrenceville Highway will be shut down from 9 p.m. on Friday, May 2, until 5 a.m. on Saturday. The project, scheduled for completion in summer 2025, is expected to cost $4.7 million.

Motorists should anticipate delays and are advised to exercise caution and reduce their speed in the work zone during project hours. Additionally, drivers are encouraged to wear seatbelts, eliminate distractions, and plan their routes in advance. They can obtain real-time information on work status and traffic conditions by calling 511, visiting 511ga.org, or using the Georgia 511 app.

Georgia Department of Transportation is responsible for planning, constructing, and maintaining Georgia’s state and federal highways. The agency is also involved in bridge, waterway, public transit, rail, general aviation, and pedestrian program initiatives. With close to 4,000 employees, Georgia DOT aims to provide a transportation system emphasizing innovation, safety, sustainability, and mobility. The Department’s vision is to enhance Georgia’s competitiveness through leadership in transportation.
