Delta Air Lines announced on May 6 that Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) has retained its title as the world’s busiest airport, serving more than 106 million passengers in 2025. The annual rankings show ATL has held this distinction for 27 of the last 28 years, with only a brief interruption during the pandemic year of 2020.
The recognition underscores the significance of ATL not only to Delta but also to Georgia’s economy and connectivity. Jeff Davidman, Vice President of State and Local Government Affairs at Delta Air Lines, said, “This distinction is a point of pride for Delta. It reflects the dedication of our people and our shared commitment with airport partners to deliver a best-in-class experience. We look forward to the continued growth of ATL’s legacy alongside that of Delta.”
Georgia Governor Brian P. Kemp commented on ATL’s impact by saying, “As home to the busiest airport in the world, Hartsfield-Jackson reinforces Georgia’s place as a global leader for investment, tourism, and trade. This recognition reflects the dedication of the airport workforce and the strong public-private partnership that keep our state connected to the world. We are proud of Delta’s deep roots here – including the more than 37,000 Delta employees who call Georgia home – and its continued commitment to supporting jobs, opportunity, and long-term growth across our state.”
Delta reports it has invested over $12 billion into modernizing its hub network—including major enhancements at Hartsfield-Jackson such as new concourses and Sky Clubs—alongside technologies aimed at streamlining passenger travel.
Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens said: “Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is more than just a gateway to the world; it is an economic engine for our Atlanta and our state. As ATL once again leads the world in passenger traffic, we celebrate the employees, partners, and airlines like Delta who make this possible through teamwork and investment. My team is committed to supporting the infrastructure, workforce, and innovation that keep Atlanta moving forward and ATL as the most efficient airport in the world.”
Delta currently operates nearly 1,000 peak-day departures from Hartsfield-Jackson to over 200 destinations worldwide—including more than sixty international cities—and employs over 37,000 Georgians.
The airline utilizes a fleet comprising various aircraft models from manufacturers such as Airbus and Boeing; connects more than 350 destinations globally; delivers scheduled transport for passengers and cargo across an extensive global network; functions as a leading global carrier offering planned services for passenger and freight transport; focuses on linking people worldwide through secure air travel; operates under U.S. law as a publicly traded entity incorporated in Delaware—all according to the official website.
