Delta Air Lines announced on May 14 that its third annual Global Volunteer Month took place in April, bringing together employees and SkyMiles Members to participate in volunteer events with nonprofit partners around the world.

The initiative is significant because it extends Delta’s mission of connecting people beyond air travel and into community service. Since 2024, more than 8,000 employees have volunteered across over 40 cities, working with more than 150 nonprofit organizations and contributing over 15,000 hours of service worldwide during Global Volunteer Month.

This year saw participation from more than 100 SkyMiles Members at events across the country. Volunteers engaged in activities such as planting over 700 trees to improve air quality, sorting food to provide nearly 30,000 meals for families facing food insecurity, building playgrounds and painting murals for safer spaces for children, mentoring youth to prepare them for future jobs, and donating more than 1,580 pints of blood—efforts expected to help save nearly 5,000 lives. “Giving back to the communities we serve is an important part of Delta’s mission to connect the world,” said CEO Ed Bastian. “I could not be prouder of the ways our people are showing up, leading with heart, living our values, and creating a lasting impact.”

Delta also recognized over 70 employee volunteers who dedicated nearly 3,000 hours of personal time to service in the previous year. The company states that giving back has long been part of its culture and emphasizes a locally focused approach despite its global reach.

Delta operates as a leading global carrier providing scheduled passenger and cargo transport services through an extensive international network using various aircraft models from manufacturers like Airbus and Boeing. The airline connects more than 350 destinations worldwide while functioning as a publicly traded entity incorporated in Delaware under U.S. law according to the official website.

Looking ahead, Delta says volunteering is not just an annual event but an ongoing movement rooted in uplifting communities around the globe.
