Dennis McEntire has been elected vice chair of the State Transportation Board of Georgia. The election took place during the board’s monthly meeting on August 21, 2025. Jamie Boswell was chosen as chair, and Tim Golden as secretary. These leadership positions take effect immediately. The board holds elections each year to provide representation from all regions of Georgia at the executive level.

McEntire serves as the representative for Georgia’s 3rd Congressional District (CD 3) on the board and was first elected in 2022. CD 3 includes Carroll, Coweta, Douglas, Fayette, Haralson, Harris, Heard, Henry, Lamar, Meriwether, Muscogee, Pike, Spalding, Troup and Upson Counties. McEntire is a graduate of the University of Georgia with a degree in Business Administration. He has held roles in public service and infrastructure throughout his career and previously served as general manager of Newnan Utilities.

The State Transportation Board consists of 14 members who set policies and govern the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT). Members are elected by a caucus of General Assembly members from their respective districts for staggered five-year terms.

The GDOT manages planning, construction and maintenance for state and federal highways across Georgia. It also supports bridge projects; waterways; public transit; rail; general aviation; bike and pedestrian programs; and assists local governments with road maintenance needs. Nearly 4,000 employees work for GDOT with an aim to improve transportation innovation, safety and mobility statewide while promoting competitiveness through transportation leadership.
