The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office announced that a 25-year-old Baltimore man was arrested after his vehicle struck a motorcyclist at the intersection of Wooten Drive and Bells Ferry Road in Cherokee County.

According to information supplied by the sheriff’s office and reported by Fox 5 Atlanta, deputies responded to the crash at the intersection where Luis Aroldo Perez-Morales struck the motorcyclist. The incident led to the arrest of Perez-Morales, who faces multiple charges, including driving under the influence (DUI), failure to yield, and serious injury by vehicle. The motorcyclist sustained serious injuries.

Cherokee County recorded 710 first-time DUI convictions in 2024. The county’s traffic enforcement efforts resulted in 208 DUI arrests by the sheriff’s office traffic unit that same year as part of broader crash investigations, according to an analysis by Bowen Painter.

Nationwide, 11,904 people were killed in alcohol-impaired driving crashes in 2024. These incidents accounted for about 30% of all traffic fatalities in the United States, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Sheriff Frank Reynolds has led the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office since January 2017 as the 39th sheriff of the county. Reynolds previously served in various roles within the department, starting in 1994, according to the office’s website.
