Effingham County Board of Commissioners schedules FY 2027 budget hearings and adoption

The Effingham County Board of Commissioners announced on May 29 that it will hold a public hearing for the Fiscal Year 2027 budget on June 2 at 5:00 p.m. The meeting will take place at the Effingham County Board of Commissioners Administrative Complex, located at 804 S. Laurel St., Springfield, Georgia. During this session, commissioners will receive both written and oral comments from the public regarding the annual budget.

The County Manager’s recommended budget for FY 2027 will be available for public inspection starting June 2 during normal office hours at the Administrative Complex. Copies of the proposed budget can also be accessed through the county’s website.

Commissioners are scheduled to review the recommended budget in meetings set for June 2 and June 16, both beginning at 5:00 p.m. at the same location. Public comment is invited during these meetings as well.

Adoption of the FY 2027 budget is planned for June 16 during a regular monthly meeting held at the Administrative Complex. The fiscal year covers July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2027.

Enrollment in Effingham County schools increased by approximately 3.6% in the previous school year, with total enrollment reaching over thirteen thousand students, according to the Georgia Department of Education. Demographic data shows that white students comprised about sixty-five percent of enrollment, black students made up seventeen percent, Hispanic students eleven percent, and multiracial students six percent within Effingham County schools during that period.
