The DeKalb County School District announced on May 7 that eleven of its schools have been recognized by the Georgia Department of Education with Single Statewide Accountability Awards for the year 2025. Eight schools were named Highest Performing Award Winners, while five received Greatest Gain Award distinctions. Montgomery Elementary School and Kittredge Magnet School earned both awards.
The recognition highlights efforts within the district to support academic achievement and growth among students. The awards are based on data from the three most recent school years, specifically 2022-23, 2023-24, and 2024-25.
“As a district, we are committed to creating learning environments where every student can thrive, and these recognitions reflect the hard work of our students, educators, staff, and families,” said Dr. Norman C. Sauce III, DCSD Interim Superintendent of Schools. “We are proud of these schools for demonstrating excellence and growth, and we celebrate their continued dedication to high achievement.”
According to state guidelines established by O.C.G.A § 20-14-37 and State Board of Education Rule 160-7-1-.01, the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement develops award criteria under SSAS and presents them for approval to the State Board of Education. Schools are recognized either for high academic performance or significant academic growth over time.
Among those earning Highest Performing Awards were Austin Elementary School (Platinum), Kittredge Magnet School (Platinum), Vanderlyn Elementary School (Platinum), Wadsworth Magnet School (Platinum), Ashford Park Elementary (Silver), DeKalb Early College Academy (Silver), Montgomery Elementary School (Silver), and Fernbank Elementary School (Bronze). Greatest Gains Award recipients included DeKalb Early College Academy (Platinum), Kittredge Magnet School (Platinum), Robert Shaw Theme School (Silver), Briarlake Elementary School (Bronze) and Montgomery Elementary School (Bronze).
Award-winning schools will receive certificates reflecting their award type and tier as part of this recognition.
