Emily Dunn, a member of the Georgia State Transportation Board (STB), has been recognized as one of Engineering Georgia magazine’s “100 Most Influential Women in Georgia Engineering.” The annual list highlights women leaders who have made significant contributions to the engineering industry in the state.
Dunn was elected to represent Georgia’s Congressional District 9 on the STB in 2011 and became the first woman chair of the board in 2015. Her district includes Banks, Fannin, Gilmer, parts of Gwinnett, Habersham, parts of Hall, Jackson, Rabun, Stephens, Towns, Union and White Counties. She is also known for her work as the former owner and CEO of Tom’s Amusement Company, Inc., and she currently serves on the board of the Amusement and Music Operators Association.
“For the eighth consecutive year, Engineering Georgia magazine has included the members of the STB and Georgia DOT in this annual listing recognizing the contributions and influence of the most notable women in Georgia engineering,” according to a statement from Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT). The 2025 list features five members from both STB and GDOT among those recognized.
The State Transportation Board is composed of 14 members representing each congressional district in Georgia. Members are chosen by a majority vote from their respective General Assembly caucuses and serve staggered five-year terms. The board oversees planning, development, and management for transportation projects across the state.
Georgia DOT reports that it employs nearly 4,000 people and manages not only highways but also bridge projects, waterways, public transit systems, railroads, aviation infrastructure, as well as bike and pedestrian programs. The department supports local governments with road maintenance efforts throughout Georgia. Its stated vision is to strengthen competitiveness within Georgia through leadership in transportation initiatives.
Engineering Georgia’s “100 Most Influential Women in Georgia Engineering” appears in its May/June issue.
