The Georgia Bureau of Investigation charged and arrested former Coffee County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chris Ashley Rozar, 49, of Douglas on May 5 following a multi-year investigation into allegations of misconduct.

The case is significant because it involves accusations against a law enforcement officer and highlights the response by both local authorities and state investigators. The matter began when a woman came forward about two years ago with allegations that Rozar had stalked her, along with other claims of serious misconduct. Then-Sheriff Doyle Wooten requested an independent investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. After the probe began, Rozar was terminated from his position at the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office.

After concluding its findings, the GBI arrested Rozar on several charges: four counts of Violation of Oath by a Public Officer, two counts of Computer Invasion of Privacy, one count each for Prohibited Use of Captured License Plate Data and Stalking. Authorities said Rozar was taken into custody and will proceed through the judicial process. He is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.

The Coffee County Sheriff’s Office acknowledged the conclusion of the GBI investigation and reaffirmed its commitment to accountability and ethical conduct. The agency said it treats all allegations involving sworn personnel seriously and continues to cooperate fully with outside investigative authorities when appropriate.

Sheriff Fred Cole addressed public concerns regarding trust in law enforcement following such incidents. “Our mission will always be to operate with Integrity, Compassion, Accountability and Professionalism,” said Cole.
