The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office took Rogelio Perez Perez of Gainesville into custody on a felony child molestation charge with an ICE hold, according to an April 11 statement. The arrest follows his prior sentencing for kicking a pregnant woman.
The case highlights ongoing efforts by local law enforcement to address offenses involving minors and coordinate with federal partners when immigration status is involved. Public booking records show Perez Perez entered custody through standard law enforcement procedures in the county jail, and officials processed the case according to protocols for felony charges involving minors and immigration status. This action aligns with routine operations to address reported offenses and coordinate with federal partners, according to a Forsyth News report available online.
Data from fostering court improvement programs indicate that during October 2024 through September 2025 Forsyth County recorded 1,140 children as subjects of maltreatment reports with a rate of 13.9 per 10,000 population. Among those reports six involved sexual abuse victims. The county ranked low for overall maltreatment investigations compared to statewide figures according to state tracking systems. Such metrics support continued focus on child protection resources at the local level, according to fostering court improvement program data.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that an estimated one in 10 children will experience sexual abuse before their 18th birthday. In addition child protective services agencies substantiated or found strong evidence to indicate that 63,000 children a year were victims of sexual abuse according to earlier national data compilations. These figures underscore the prevalence of such offenses across the country and the role of law enforcement in response, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
