The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has announced that Fran Mar Drive South in Hall County will be closed starting Monday, March 9, 2026, at approximately 9 a.m. The closure is related to the ongoing construction of the Sardis Road Connector Project.

This project involves widening and reconstructing several existing roads and building new roadway sections on a new alignment. The connector will begin at the intersection of Sardis Road and Chestatee Road, extending north for about 3.55 miles to State Route 60 near Mt. Vernon Road. When finished, it is expected to provide a direct link between SR 53 in the south and SR 60 in the north, improving transportation flow and regional access.

The design for the new road includes four lanes—two in each direction—divided by a 20-foot raised median with curb and gutter features. Sidewalks will also be added on both sides to support pedestrian movement and safety.

During construction, traffic that would normally use Fran Mar Drive South will be rerouted along Fran Mar Drive North and Brackett Drive. The detour will remain until work on the new intersection is complete or until further notice. All scheduled work depends on weather conditions.

Motorists are advised to plan ahead, anticipate delays, and drive carefully through the area. GDOT has provided detour maps on its Northeast Facebook page for additional guidance.

A statement from GDOT reads: “GDOT appreciates the public’s patience as this project progresses and works to improve safety, connectivity, and transportation efficiency in Hall County.”
