Senator Larry Walker III (R–Perry) has declared that the Hawkinsville-Pulaski County Airport is set to receive over $165,000 from the state for an upgrade to its runway lighting. This funding is allocated through the Georgia Department of Transportation’s FY25 Airport Aid Program.
The lighting improvements will be made to Runway 10-28, which is projected to bolster pilot safety, reliability, and airport operations. The overall cost of the project is estimated at $221,222.85, with $165,917.14 being covered by state funding. A local contribution of $55,305.71 will be provided by the City of Hawkinsville.
“This investment is critical for the future of Hawkinsville-Pulaski County Airport and the entire community it serves,” Sen. Walker stated. He added, “Upgrading the runway lighting ensures pilots have access to safe and reliable facilities, which in turn supports local economic development, emergency services and connectivity for our region. I appreciate the continued partnership between state and local leaders to keep our rural airports strong.”
Construction inspections and testing will be managed by Goodwyn, Mills, and Cawood, LLC. GDOT’s District Engineer and Materials Research Engineer teams will assist the project, with costs billed to the Capital Outlay–Airport Aid Program.
