The Georgia Department of Transportation announced on Mar. 27 that contractors will install weekend lane closures on Interstate 85 northbound between Midtown Atlanta and Lindbergh Drive to begin a resurfacing project. The work is scheduled to take place from Sunday, March 29 at 9 p.m. until Monday at 6 a.m., affecting the area from the I-75/I-85 Brookwood Interchange in Fulton County to Clairmont Road in DeKalb County.
The resurfacing project aims to provide a smoother ride for drivers and improve the condition of the deteriorating roadway. Four left lanes and the shoulder lane will be closed during these hours, with partial closure of the exit ramp to Lindbergh Drive, which will remain open to traffic.
On-site message boards and traffic control measures will alert drivers as they approach the affected area. Lane closures are intended to ensure safety for both workers and motorists while crews continue milling, inlay, and resurfacing activities.
Motorists are advised to expect delays, exercise caution, and reduce speed while traveling through the work zone during construction hours. Real-time updates about work status and traffic conditions can be accessed by calling 511, visiting 511ga.org, or using the Georgia 511 app.
The Georgia Department of Transportation is responsible for planning, constructing, and maintaining state and federal highways across Georgia. The department also manages bridge projects as well as public transit, railways, general aviation programs, bike paths, pedestrian programs, and assists local governments with road maintenance.
