The Georgia Department of Transportation announced on April 10 that contractors will continue work on the I-16/I-75 Interchange Improvement Project in Macon-Bibb, with scheduled activities beginning Sunday, April 12. The upcoming construction will involve traffic pacing as Georgia Power removes power lines along both directions of I-75 and westbound I-16, potentially affecting ramps and causing traffic delays.

This update is important for local commuters and regional travelers because the $620 million project aims to improve safety and mobility through major upgrades to the interchange. The work includes widening and reconstructing interstate lanes, building new collector-distributor lanes, upgrading bridges, installing new walls, and improving drainage systems. Construction is being carried out in seven phases through 2030.

Traffic pacing will take place on I-75 northbound from mile marker 162 to 166, southbound from mile marker 170 to 166, and on I-16 westbound from mile marker 3 to the start of I-75 southbound at mile marker zero. Motorists are advised that dates may change due to weather or other factors. They should expect delays and use caution when traveling through these areas. Real-time updates are available by calling 511 or visiting 511ga.org.
