The Georgia Department of Transportation announced scheduled weekend lane and ramp closures on Interstate 75/Interstate 85, known as the Downtown Connector, in Fulton County for a resurfacing project between the CSX Railroad crossing in South Atlanta and the I-75/I-85 Brookwood Interchange in midtown Atlanta.

According to the department, weather and on-site conditions permitting, two right lanes will be closed on I-75/I-85 northbound from Martin Luther King Jr. Drive to Courtland Street from 9 p.m. on Friday, May 8 until 6 a.m. on Saturday. Alternating single right lanes will also be closed on Freedom Parkway northbound and southbound between Boulevard and Piedmont Avenue during this period. Several ramps will be closed to traffic, including the I-75/I-85 northbound exit to Freedom Parkway; the ramp from Highland Street to I-75/I-85 northbound; entrance ramps from Irwin Street and Williams Street/Spring Street to I-75/I-85 northbound; and the entrance ramp from Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard to I-75/I-85 southbound.

From 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 9 until 6 a.m. on Sunday, one left lane will be closed on Freedom Parkway northbound and southbound between Boulevard and Piedmont Avenue. The exit ramp from I-75 southbound to I-85 northbound will also be closed during this time frame. Roadway signage will alert drivers of these closures in advance and provide direction to detour routes.

The $22.5 million project is currently scheduled for completion in late spring 2026. Motorists are advised by GDOT to expect delays, exercise caution, and reduce their speed while traveling through the work zone during project hours. Real-time information about work status and traffic conditions is available by calling 511, visiting 511ga.org or downloading the Georgia 511 app.
