The Georgia Department of Transportation announced on April 18 that contractors will begin maintenance work on the I-285 bridge over the Chattahoochee River in Cobb and Fulton counties this weekend.
Weather and on-site conditions permitting, one right lane will be closed on I-285 between Riverside Drive and the I-285/I-75 interchange from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 18 and Sunday, April 19. Roadway signs and message boards will alert drivers of the closures in advance so that alternative routes or extra travel time can be planned.
According to the department, “This maintenance project will repair and/or replace the bridge deck overlay, edge beams, other elements of the substructure and superstructure and also address settlement issues at the abutments. This $9.7 million project is scheduled for completion in late fall 2027. As always, motorists traveling in the area are reminded to reduce their speeds in the work zone. Motorists are also encouraged to wear seatbelts, eliminate distractions behind the wheel, and plan their routes before getting on the road by calling 511 for real-time information on work status and traffic conditions.”
The Georgia Department of Transportation delivers transportation solutions that support economic development and benefit residents across the state, according to the official website. The agency employs about 4,000 staff members with an operating budget over $4.5 billion, according to its official website.
The department focuses on developing and maintaining Georgia’s roadways while supporting rail, transit and other transportation programs. It operates under the State Transportation Board and works with local governments as well as federal agencies to advance transportation efforts throughout Georgia’s network statewide, according to its official website.
More details about these lane closures can be found in the organization’s press release.
