( The Georgia Department of Transportation announced that continuous lane closures will be installed this weekend on Interstate 285 from Collier Drive in Fulton County to Paces Ferry Road in Cobb County. The closures are part of an ongoing concrete slab reconstruction and rehabilitation project along the westside of the I-285 corridor.

According to the department, scheduled lane closures will take place between 7 p.m. on Friday, May 29, and 5 a.m. on Monday, June 1. Two right lanes will be closed northbound/westbound and southbound/eastbound between State Route 280/South Cobb Drive (exit 15) and US 78/US 278/State Route 8/Hollowell Parkway (exit 12). The department said these closures are necessary to provide ample room for crews to work safely during the rehabilitation activities, as large equipment will be present at the site. Roadside message boards and signage will alert drivers about the upcoming changes.

The $155 million project is one of two initiatives along the I-285 westside corridor focused on repairing or replacing concrete slabs. Completion is scheduled for fall 2028. Drivers are advised to exercise caution near work zones, wear seatbelts, follow posted signage, reduce speed, move over one lane when possible for crew safety, and avoid distractions while driving. Motorists are encouraged to use navigation apps such as the 511GA app if travel through this area is necessary during construction.

The Georgia Department of Transportation delivers transportation solutions that support economic development and benefit residents across the state; it employs about 4,000 staff members with an operating budget over $4.5 billion; focuses on developing and maintaining Georgia’s roadways while supporting rail, transit and other transportation programs; operates under the State Transportation Board; serves the entire state through its transportation network; and works with local governments and federal agencies to advance transportation efforts, according to the official website.
