The Georgia Department of Transportation announced on March 20 that it has awarded a $3.6 million contract to C.W. Matthews Contracting CO. Inc. to resurface a section of State Route 120 in Paulding County.
The resurfacing project is part of a larger package, with GDOT awarding $48.8 million in contracts across the state in February. The work on SR 120 will cover approximately 9.4 miles, stretching from State Route 101 to State Route 6/Jimmy Campbell Parkway, and aims to improve road conditions and extend the lifespan of the roadway.
According to GDOT District Six Engineer Grant Waldrop, “This project and others like it in Northwest Georgia are important to maintaining a good state of repair on our state routes.” Waldrop added, “Once the project is complete it will give motorists a smoother ride on SR 120 in Paulding County.”
Work is expected to begin within the next two to three months, with completion scheduled for January 31, 2027. In addition to this major resurfacing effort, GDOT also awarded two other contracts in Northwest Georgia totaling about $490,000 for upgrading railroad signage and pavement markings at various locations and for upgrading pavement markings on Clear Creek Road in Dalton.
Motorists traveling through these work zones are advised by GDOT to expect delays, exercise caution, and reduce speed while construction is underway. Real-time updates on traffic conditions and work status can be accessed by calling 511, visiting 511ga.org, or using the Georgia 511 app.
