Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) quick response teams will start work on a new Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB) project on State Route 18 at Bennett and Harris Streets in Monroe County, beginning January 26, 2026. The project includes the installation of a pedestrian crosswalk with ADA ramps at Forsyth City Hall.
According to GDOT, the construction will bring changes to traffic patterns in the area. Drivers are advised to be alert for interruptions and proceed cautiously through the work zone. The project is expected to be completed within 90 days.
“Motorists are advised to expect delays, exercise caution, and reduce their speed while traveling through work zones. Before heading out, get real-time information on work status and traffic conditions. Call 511, visit 511ga.org, or download the Georgia 511 app,” stated GDOT.
The RRFB system is designed to improve pedestrian safety by increasing visibility at crossings. For more information about RRFBs and pedestrian safety tips, GDOT recommends visiting resources provided by the Federal Highway Administration and its own website.
GDOT oversees planning, construction, and maintenance of state and federal highways in Georgia. The department also manages bridge projects, public transit systems, railways, aviation infrastructure, bike paths, and pedestrian programs. It supports local governments with road maintenance as well. According to GDOT, its nearly 4,000 employees focus on innovation, safety, sustainability, and mobility with a vision “to boost Georgia’s competitiveness through leadership in transportation.”
