Governor Brian P. Kemp, alongside the Georgia Department of Revenue, has announced that special tax refunds will begin distribution this week. This marks the third instance of such refunds under Governor Kemp’s administration, enabled by House Bill 112 passed in the 2025 legislative session. The refunds are attributed to conservative budget practices and a robust state economy.
“Because we’ve managed our state’s resources wisely, we’re again able to return money to hardworking Georgians who know how best to use it,” stated Governor Kemp. He emphasized that this refund, along with a significant income tax rate cut, aims to support residents and businesses in Georgia.
Eligible taxpayers who have filed their 2023 and 2024 returns on time can expect their refunds soon. Refund amounts vary: $250 for single filers and married individuals filing separately, $375 for head of household filers, and $500 for married couples filing jointly.
This initiative follows previous refunds in 2022 and 2023. To qualify, taxpayers must have completed both individual income tax returns for 2023 and 2024, contributed to the system, and hold no debts with the state’s Department of Revenue.
In conjunction with HB 112, House Bill 111 was also passed by the General Assembly. This legislation reduced Georgia’s income tax rate from 5.39% to 5.19%, marking another step in the planned reduction initiated by Governor Kemp in 2022.
State Revenue Commissioner Frank O’Connell assured that “Our Department is ready to get this third round of refunds out the door efficiently and securely.” He expressed gratitude for the collaboration with Governor Kemp and the General Assembly.
Taxpayers can verify their eligibility using an online tool available through the Georgia Tax Center by entering specific personal details related to their tax filings.
