The Georgia Chamber of Commerce announced on Apr. 20 its support for the May Matters initiative, a nonpartisan public education campaign aimed at increasing awareness and participation in Georgia’s upcoming primary elections.

May Matters seeks to inform Georgians about the timing, importance, and process of participating in primary elections. The initiative does not provide legal advice, conduct election administration, or engage in political advocacy.

Georgia’s primary election is scheduled for Tuesday, May 19. The Chamber said voter engagement is especially important ahead of Election Day.

Chris Clark, President and CEO of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, said: “Strong participation in primary elections is essential to ensuring that Georgia’s business climate remains competitive and representative of the communities it serves. Decisions made during primaries often shape the direction of policy and leadership long before the general election. When more Georgians are engaged early in the process, it leads to stronger outcomes for our economy and our state.”

Primary elections determine which candidates will appear on general election ballots. For businesses across Georgia, these contests can affect policies related to workforce development, economic growth, infrastructure investment, taxation rates, and regulatory stability.

The Chamber said a healthy business environment relies on predictability and leadership that reflects community priorities. It encourages all eligible voters to learn more about primary elections and make plans to participate or spread awareness.

Founded in 1911 and incorporated in 1915, the Georgia Chamber represents tens of thousands of members statewide with offices located in Atlanta, Brunswick, and Tifton. In 2025 it launched its strategic plan “Georgia|2050” focused on sustaining economic opportunity over the next quarter century.
