Today, Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tyler J. Harper called on residents to safeguard their pets and livestock as the state faces a severe heat wave. The current weather conditions pose significant risks to animals, with heat index values anticipated to range from 100 to 108 degrees from Wednesday through Sunday.
“With extreme heat expected for the remainder of the week, I am encouraging all Georgians to take steps to protect their pets and livestock from heat stress,” stated Harper. He further mentioned that “GDA has resources available to help you identify signs of heat stress in your animals and how you can prevent it.”
Harper’s appeal highlights the potential dangers of extreme temperatures, which can lead to serious health issues or even fatalities among animals. Residents are urged to be vigilant and utilize available resources to ensure the well-being of their pets and livestock during this period.
