Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tyler J Harper has declared September 2025 as “Georgia Grown Apple Month.” The announcement comes alongside the release of the Official 2025 Apple Orchards Map by Georgia Grown, a division of the Georgia Department of Agriculture. The map highlights orchards across the state that offer pick-your-own experiences.

“Many Georgians don’t think about visiting North Georgia’s beautiful apple orchards until the weather turns cool and the leaves turn brown, but apple season in Georgia is in full swing right now,” said Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tyler J Harper. “This month, Georgia Grown is proud to showcase Georgia’s apple industry and the farm families who work tirelessly to fuel its success.”

Elijay, known as the apple capital of Georgia, is home to many generational family-owned orchards. According to data from the USDA agricultural census in 2022, apple acreage in Georgia increased by 76%, reaching 984 acres statewide and supporting approximately 360,000 apple-producing trees. In 2023, apples contributed over $10 million in farm gate value for the state.

Georgia Grown encourages both residents and visitors to use the interactive Apple Orchards map to connect with local growers and learn more about agritourism opportunities at https://www.georgiagrown.com/.
