Antoine Caldwell has been promoted to Deputy Director for Field Operations at the Georgia Department of Corrections, Commissioner Tyrone Oliver announced on May 28. Caldwell, who currently serves as North Regional Director, will assume his new role effective June 1, 2026. In this position, he will assist in the oversight of all state prison facilities.
“Antoine has been a steadfast and dedicated leader in each position he has held during his 31-year tenure with the GDC,” said Commissioner Oliver. “We are confident that his correctional knowledge will benefit staff and offenders as he steps into his new leadership position as Deputy Director for Field Operations.”
Caldwell began his career in 1995 as a Correctional Officer at Dooly State Prison. He joined the CERT Team in 1997 and was promoted to Sergeant in 2000, serving as Assistant Shift Supervisor and later Outside Detail Supervisor. His subsequent promotions included Lieutenant in 2001 with roles such as Lead Shift Supervisor and Disciplinary Hearing Officer; Chief of Security in 2004; Deputy Warden of Security at Dooly State Prison in 2005; Deputy Director of Audits and Compliance Unit (Developmental Assignment) in 2012; Warden at Wilcox State Prison in 2013; Warden at Johnson State Prison from 2017; Warden at Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison from 2022; Assistant North Regional Director from 2023; and North Regional Director since 2024.
Caldwell holds an associate degree from Columbus State University and Fort Valley State University. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Thomas University and a Master of Business Administration with a minor in Public Administration from Thomas University. His departmental training includes Basic Correctional Officer Training, CERT Basic, Basic Management Training, Corrections Fire Inspector I, Professional Management Program, Corrections Leadership Institute, and Warden’s Pre-Command.
The Georgia Department of Corrections is responsible for supervising approximately 47,000 state prisoners across one of the largest prison systems in the United States. The department employs about 9,000 people statewide.
